In the vast majority of cases, insurance companies can no longer take back coverage you already received. If your insurance company tries to drop you when you get sick, they are breaking the law. And even if your insurer thinks they have a good reason to drop you, they still must give you 30 days’ notice to either appeal the decision or to find a new plan.
